It’s September and the holidays are over, which means it’s time to get back to work. It feels a bit like the start of the New Year, which should fill someone like me with excitement and enthusiasm, but in fact often makes me feel like I have to start all over again. And even when, like me, you love what you do, it can be a real slog to get back into the rhythm of working life when you’d much rather be having a buffet breakfast, go to the beach, read 5 books or party all day long.
So what can you do to get inspired again after the holiday season?
The answer is to (re)create your Vision Board. Lots of people have goals but they haven’t written them down or – better still – created a Vision Board.
So how do you do that? Think about what you want to be, to do, to have. Then find images to represent those goals, from magazines or Google, and put them on your Board so they are there in front of you to keep on inspiring you.
My goals for example, are to be healthy, to travel, to be successful in my work, and most of all to have a great relationship with my husband Nick.
I have pictures of places I want to go; a lovely thank you note from a client (which for me means success); photos of healthy food and a woman running on a beach – and a picture of me and Nick at the centre.
The Board’s not huge, just A4 size, and I update it, think about my goals and remind myself why certain things are important to have there. I find it very helpful and fun too – so after my lovely holiday I’m going to get to work on it now and get myself going again.
And if that’s not enough to get you going, then think about learning a new skill. It doesn’t have to be work related but if it is, all the better. You could learn a language, pick up a paint brush or join a film group, whatever tickles your fancy. There are so many options open to you, and most of the time the new classes start this month. I find it really invigorates your brain and gets you re-inspired.

Now, where’s my course brochure gone?
